Slows Bar• B•Q

Slows Bar BQ restaurant is an excellent place to visit when you are out for a night  in the city of Detroit. My wife and I decided to go there for dinner before heading to downtown to check out the winter fun. The restaurant is easy to find. It has a  retro style look outside and a door that looks like a stack of wooden bricks.  We went early, around 4, because we know that it fills up fast. Inside and our wait time was quick about 10 minutes then they showed us to our table. The atmosphere was great and our waiter was pleasant as he took our order. We both ordered a half of slab of ribs with two different sides. I had the macaroni and cheese and the pit smoked pork & beans. My wife's sides included the sweet potato mash and zingerman's corn bread. The food was great and we had options of different sauces to use on our ribs. The service was wonderful and great the whole time we were dining. I do recommend this restaurant Slows Bar BQ to anyone in the Downtown Detroit area for a place to eat. Step 5. Let's begin to make the sauce for the wing dings by adding a 18 oz bottle of barbecue sauce,  two table spoons of hot sauce and a pinch of red pepper flakes mixed into a bowl.

Bad Brads BBQ

Bad Brads BBQ in Shelby Township is an excellent restaurant to visit. I went on a crowded weekend night and service was still quick and friendly. When you first walk in, the smell from the barbeque entices to try their food. You have a choice between eating indoors or outdoors on the patio. The view from inside or the patio is fun for people watching and you can listen to some of the classic rock music being played. Our waitress, Kayla, was friendly and took our order quickly. We ordered an appetizer called corn fritters. It came with three different types of dipping sauce. My wife and I both ordered barbecue ribs with different choices of two sides. I chose the mac n’ cheese and beans as my two sides. She chose the collard greens and french fries. Everything was delicious and with the wonderful service from our waitress it was an enjoyable meal. With the great food and fun atmosphere I do recommend this restaurant for quick and tasty food. To check out their menu click on the link:

Erma's Original Frozen Custard

One of my favorite places to go when I am in the mood for a cold treat is Erma's, home of the Original Frozen Custard. It has been around for more than 70 years and is a favorite spot for many locals. The lines are usually long, but the taste is well worth it. Erma's has a variety of choices from cones, to sundaes to parfaits. During this visit I ordered a hot fudge sundae and my wife ordered her favorite, the triple chocolate parfait. There is seating around the side and back of the shop. We found a bench and enjoyed our treat. If you are looking for a local favorite to try and are in the Utica/Shelby area I recommend Erma's! Desi's Family Dining and Cocktails

On our second night is Oscoda we ended up eating dinner at Desi's Taco Lounge which is located on W River Road. Desi's has a Mexican-American restaurant which made me and my wife both happy. Eating at Desi's Taco Lounge was a wonderful experience with great food and service. When my wife and I walked in we quickly noticed that the place is covered with memorabilia. License plates stamp across the ceiling, old signs advertising pop, pictures of the old Tiger Stadium along with a train that moves around the ceiling of part of the restaurant. After ordering our drinks and looking over the menu we placed our order with Vickie, who was our waitress. She was very friendly and added to the cheer of the family atmosphere. You could tell she was well liked by many of the regulars.  My wife ordered her favorite, the steak fajitas. I ordered fried wing dings and fries from the American part of the menu. The appetizer was homemade salsa with homemade tortilla chips. The food came quickly and was prepared nicely. The portion size was large enough that we definitely left feeling full.  If you are in Oscoda area I recommend this restaurant for a place to stop and eat.

Wiltse's Brew-Pub

While staying in Oscoda we wanted to try some of the local food for dinner. We found the Wiltse's Brew Pub on F 41. As we entered the restaurant we immediately noticed the decorative boat motors and mugs on the walls.  As we were showed to our seats we noticed fishing gear and fish also added to the decorations on the walls. Being near Lake Huron and the Au Sable River, these decorations added to the atmosphere of the city. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries, which was recommended by our waitress, Cheryl. My wife ordered some barbecue ribs which came with their apple slaw and homemade baked beans.  If you ever visit and need suggestions our waitress let us know that any entrée highlighted with red is their specialty entrées. The food was served to us in just minutes and it was good. We ordered dessert next. I had the chocolate decadence, which is a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge. My wife ordered the fried cheesecake. They definitely hit the spot and were a great ending to our meal.  I truly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting  the Oscoda area. Tequila Blue 526 Main Dueling Piano Bar

Our dinner in Royal Oak at Tequila Blue 526 Main Dueling Piano Bar was relaxing. When we walked in the hostess gave us the choice to sit inside or outside on the patio. We chose to sit outside. On our way to the patio we passed the pianos that the restaurant is known for. Their entertainment is the dueling pianos and it always sets the atmosphere for having a good time.  There was a nice view of the downtown area to admire while we waited. The wait staff were welcoming with a warm smile. We ordered fajitas with spanish rice and fried breaded wing dings with garlic roles. The food was  delicious and the service was outstanding.  I do recommend this restaurant in the downtown area in Royal Oak especially to hear variety of music playing.

Freighters

Before heading home from our day trip we stopped at Freighters for some dinner.  It has an exciting view from the patio,  tasty food with excellent service. I enjoyed this restaurant and menu with a variety of dishes to choose from. The waiter was professional and gave us suggestions of what foods to eat and the choices that are their signature dishes. The meal we ate was the tower of ribs with fried onions and french fries. It was delicious. After we finished eating we walked around and enjoyed the view of the St. Clair River and the Blue Water Bridge. I would recommend this restaurant that is located in Port Huron, MI.

You don't have to be a chef to learn how to cook excellent foods, but sometimes it begins in the kitchen. Please view my blog of restaurants that I have visited in Michigan.

Delicious chicken in Port Huron at the Palms Krystal Bar Restaurant

While visiting the Port Huron area I made a stop to eat at Palms Krystal Bar Restaurant. Me and my wife  ordered some of their famous chicken, called the Chicken in the Rough. We also ordered their barbecue ribs the dinner sides too. Their chicken tasted delicious and it is what the restaurant is known for. The service was excellent. Enjoying the Irish spirit in Holland

The friendly spirit at the Curragh Irish Pub located in downtown Holland was amazing once again. Me and my wife have visited this popular pub before. The atmosphere is friendly and filled with Irish music. People come here to gather together and drink from the nice selection of Irish beer. While there with friends people can cheer on their teams while watching sports on the TVs. There might be a wait, but the service is worth it. To make the wait easier they take down your phone number so they can call you when seating is available. By doing this it allows you to visit other shops downtown. The menu has selections of beer and food to choose from so you can experience the taste of there Irish culture. Choices vary from authentic Irish food to basic common dishes. After placing your order just look around at the decorations that fill the bar with a sense of the Irish. Here comes the food and the wait is never long. The food is delivered with a smile. The wait staff is courteous and checks on the tables often. The Curragh Irish Pub would be my first choice, but there are other restaurants in downtown Holland that look tasty and I can not wait to try them out.

Downtown in Holland for a quick Breakfast

While downtown in Holland we stopped for breakfast at the Windmill Restaurant. The scenery downtown is wonderful to look at while my wife and I wait to get seated. This isn't our first time here, we enjoy going to the hang out spot where everyone goes to have something to eat. The wait staff is always friendly when checking on your table to make sure you are having excellent service. I usually order breakfast, but like their other menu choices that I have tried before. I do recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits downtown Holland. It is a nice spot to eat with easy acess to the little shops up and down the street.

Comfortable dining at a family owned Coney Island

Phoenix Coney Island is a family owned business that I been visiting for quite a few years. There is a comfortable atmosphere that is felt as you walk in the door. Most of the staff recognizes their regular customers and greets us as we walk in. A friendly waitress will take your order and while you are waiting for your meal, you can catch a game on one of their televisions. The most frequent order that I place is from the breakfast menu. They serve breakfast anytime and are open 24 hours a day. Though I frequently enjoy the breakfast choices, there is a variety of lunch and dinner choices, too. They are located on 40100 Van Dyke in Sterling Heights. I do recommend this family owned restaurant with an old school look to anyone who wants to enjoy a quick, affordable meal served by their friendly staff.
